Overview

The Taiwan Engineering study tour provides students an opportunity to undertake a broad study of the engineering environment within Taiwan. Students will have the opportunity to engage with universities and academics, industry company visits, government agencies and visiting unique cultural attractions.

Destination Highlights

Presidential Office Building

Taipei’s Presidential Office Building has housed the offices of the Taiwan president since 1949. Built in 1919 for the ruling Japanese governor-general, the building is renowned for its baroque architecture, red-brick facade, and central tower.

Pingxi Branch Rail Line

The Pingxi Branch Rail Line was completed in 1921, and until the late 1980s, it was used exclusively as a mining train, transporting coal south from the mountains of Northern Taiwan. Today, the train whisks passengers through a wooded gorge area, past waterfalls, trailheads and old mining towns and is a day well spent for its charming old-school train experience.

Kavalan Whisky Distillery

Distillery, one of Taiwan’s most famous,where you can learn all about the process of creating Taiwanese whisky. Established by the King Car Group, the Kavalan distillery is the first (and only) whisky distillery in Taiwan. Using a building in Yilan along with Taiwan’s unique natural resources, the Kavalan whisky distillery produced the very first bottles of Taiwan-made whisky back in 2008.
