The Japan Urban Planning & Sustainability study tour provides students an opportunity to undertake a broad study of the sustainability environment within Japan. Students will have the opportunity to engage with universities and academics, industry company visits, government agencies and visiting unique cultural attractions.

Destination Highlights

Hakone Hot Springs ONSEN

Hakone is famous as one of the best hot spring resorts in Japan. Hakone is called an “onsen theme park” because of the different styles and types of hot springs you can experience and enjoy in the area. There are hundreds of bathes to discover in the area each with their own qualities, history, and appeal.

Golden Pavillion

Kinkaku-ji or the Temple of the Golden Pavilion is the most popular tourist attraction in Japan and Kyoto. The pavilion was originally built as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in the late 14th century. The pavilion is covered in gold leaf which highlights the reflection of the pavilion in the pond and the pond’s reflection on the building.

Soba Making

Soba noodles are one of the classic comfort foods here in Tokyo. An expert local instructor will lead through the process of mixing the flour, kneading the dough the traditional way, rolling out and cutting into passable noodle shapes (the hard bit),boiling and enjoying with choice of delectable dips, sauces, and additional morsels.
